NURS 420 Community and Population Health

NURS 420 – Community and Population Health (3)

Prerequisite: MATH 200 and NURS 310. This course examines population-focused nursing. Improving population health through health promotion and disease and injury prevention across the lifespan for individuals, families, groups, communities and populations will be explored. Fundamentals of epidemiology and biostatistics will be introduced. Primary, secondary, and tertiary care will be differentiated. The national health initiative Healthy People 2020 will be utilized. The RN will work in a group to perform an assessment and design a health promotion and/or disease and injury preventive program for an assigned community. This course includes 16 hours of field work experience in the assigned community.
